Women using heroin in Kenya: why it’s important to intervene early in life

Catherine Mwangiof Jomo Kenyatta University and John Gachohi of Washington State University sought to understand why and how young girls and women progressed from using legal drugs – like alcohol and cigarettes – into illicit narcotics, like heroin. They found that most women were introduced into drug use by male sexual partners in their teenage years (11-17 yo).
