Football World Cup and domestic abuse

Police forces recorded 384 incidents of domestic abuse linked to this year’s World Cup football tournament. The Respect Phoneline also noted a 37% rise in calls, compared to the same timings last year. Football tournaments don’t cause domestic abuse, but they can exacerbate it, and are often combined with other risk factors such as increased alcohol consumption.
