UK leads the world in online gambling

Since 2019 at least half of online gamblers have been using smartphones. The value of the online industry (excluding the National Lottery) has soared: gross gambling yield reached £6.4billion in 2022, up from £817million in 2009. Rates of addiction among those betting online appear to be higher than for those offlline, the Economist reported.
