Alcohol abuse costs £27billion/year

The Institute of Alcohol Studies laid bare the cost of alcohol abuse: £27billion a year in England alone in health and social harms, including 10,048 alcohol-specific deaths. The extra burden on the NHS, social services, criminal justice and the labour market cost at least 37% more than in 2003, when the Cabinet Office estimated the costs at £18.5-£20billion.
