US overdose deaths fall after Covid lockdown increases

The CDC shared provisional US national data as showing a continued fall in overdose deaths: about 87,000 from October 2023-September 2024, down from about 114,000 the previous year and the fewest overdose deaths in any 12 months since June 2020 just after lockdowns started. A resumption of treatment services was one success factor.
