Germany: 44% of prisoners with addiction

Germany’s 1st nationwide survey on addiction in prisons in prisons found that 44% of inmates have a substance use disorder. Over 55,000 people are incarcerated in correctional facilities – and estimates are that 50-75% of them have at least one mental health disorder. Internationally, research shows that at least 40% of prisoners have a substance-related condition.
