Alcohol, cannabis, opioid and nicotine use disorders cluster together genetically into one brain disorder, academics representing 494 research institutions across the US and Europe confirmed. They integrated genome-wide data from 1million+ people with 14 psychiatric disorders, showing many common psychiatric diagnoses share genetic liability, shaped by neurodevelopmental biology and life experiences.
