50 years of Operation Understanding

Operation Understanding started  in 1976 at a historic press conference in Washington DC, organized by Marty Mann and the National Council on Alcoholism. 52 prominent Americans – including astronaut Buzz Aldrin, actor Dick Van Dyke, Senator Harold Hughes – shared their recovery. Nothing like it had occurred before. Operation Understanding surpassed its aspirations as we celebrate it 50 years later.
