The Medicaid squeeze

Between 2023-2024,126 US hospitals closed their inpatient psychiatric units – and that was before the effects of last year’s Congressional Budget Bill, HR-1, took effect. While psychiatric units are often in the red and subsidized by the rest of the health system, “Medicaid changes will force hospital psychiatric units to provide care to many more people who don’t have insurance”, Open Minds predicted.
