United Against Fentanyl, a DC-based drug policy organization, recently asserted that “in 2026, overdoses in the US are at an all-time high,” pointing to how the rate of non-fatal overdoses so far in 2026 was higher than it was in recent years. Non-fatal overdoses were 196 per 100,000 people in the 12 months ending May 2026, compared to 173 in 2023, 184 in 2021 and 135 per 100,000 in 2019.
