For professionals working in family law, growing drug deaths are not only a public health but also a safeguarding issue. When drug use is relevant to parenting capacity, risk at home or compliance with court directions, the testing strategy must reflect the reality of current substances used – otherwise, the court could be asked to make decisions based on incomplete data.
