Adverse childhood experiences play a pivotal role in alcohol use disorder and evidence suggests that this role differs by gender. Germany’s University of Heildelburg found that gender-specific brain prefrontal cue reactivity patterns suggest differential neural pathways linking ACEs to craving vulnerability in early AUD, particularly females. This should inform intervention strategies.
