Criminals could avoid jail if they get treatment

David Lidington is in talks with the Mayor of London to extend a pilot scheme so offenders accused of low level crimes get treatment for alcohol or drugs rather than go to court. It is part of a review by Labour MP David Lammy on how black & minority ethnic people are treated by the criminal justice system.
