North-South divide in opioid and painkiller prescribing

In the North East, painkillers are prescribed are 3 times more per head than in London, according to Open Prescribing. For example, a practice in Durham with 18,000 patients prescribes the equivalent of 42,000 strong tablets, while an average same-size UK practice prescribes the equivalent of 16,000 strong tablets.
