… for 48 hours, in the name of charity – donate £10 to get her out (or more to keep her in – EBP_Locked Up?).
Elisabeth Burton-Phillips, a wife mother and grandmother is the founder of the charity DrugFAM www.drugfam.co.uk
Elizabeth and criminal justice staff and managers from custodial service providers are holding a marathon event during February where we will be locked up for a total period of 48 hours, in order to raise awareness and funds for DrugFAM.
Operation Lock-up is to be held in Maidenhead custody suite from 23rd to 25 February 2016. This is a joint charity event between Thames Valley Police, it’s custodial partner agencies; Resource and Mountain Health Care Ltd. and the charity DrugFAM. The event will see DrugFAM Founder and CEO, Elizabeth Burton-Phillips and Chief Inspector Dave Cherrington, Force Custody Lead for Thames Valley Police, being held consecutively in a police cell whilst funds are raised in order to secure their release. Following this, a number of other police staff, managers and partners will also spend time held in a cell during a marathon event lasting 48 hours.
DrugFAM is now celebrating its tenth year of supporting families since the death of Elizabeth Burton-Phillips son Nicholas in February 2004. The primary purpose of the charity is to provide a lifeline to families, friends and carers affected by someone else’s substance misuse. We aim to ensure that those who turn to us are listened to, understood and supported. We believe passionately that no-one should struggle with the stigma from wider society or be left in isolation, fear and ignorance of our local and national support.
DrugFAM’s three strategic aims are:
- Support to families, friends or carers affected by someone’s addiction to drugs and alcohol
- Support to a families, friends or carers bereaved by someone’s addiction to drugs and alcohol
- Education and awareness-raising on the impact of someone’s addiction on communities, families, friends or carers
Members of staff and partners of Thames Valley Police hope that as well as supporting a very important charity, it will be an opportunity to experience what it is like to be detained in custody first hand.
Theresa May (Maidenhead, local MP said “I welcome the work that Thames Valley Police is doing with DrugFAM to look at improving custody provision for vulnerable detainees. This event is an innovative way of highlighting the issue and raising awareness of DrugFam’s excellent work in the local area. I am sure it will be an interesting experience for everyone involved and I hope it is also successful in raising funds for DrugFam, which is a fantastic charity.”
The charity invites donations of £10 for its ten years of service to families member sand donations can be made via Just Giving.
