Opioid painkillers to carry addiction warnings

A dramatic rise in the use of opioid painkillers could see the UK lurching towards a US-style addiction crisis unless urgent action is taken, the Health Secretary warned yesterday as he launched a government crackdown – painkillers issued by prescription soared by over 60%, from about 14million in 2008 to 23million last year.
