Neanderthal DNA could give clues to genetic risks for addiction

An international team led by the University of Tartu, Charité Berlin and Amsterdam UMC analysed Neanderthal DNA associations with a large variety of over 10 brain disorders and traits such as sleep, smoking or alcohol use in the UK Biobank. Among the traits with the strongest Neanderthal DNA contribution were smoking habits and alcohol consumption.
