Heavy alcohol consumption increases brain inflammation

Scripps Research Institute et al reported that the immune signalling molecule interleukin 1β (IL-1β) is higher in the brains of mice with alcohol dependence. It also caused inflammation in critical areas of the brain known to be involved in decision-making, exacerbating drinking.
