Trends in alcohol-specific deaths

Alcohol-specific deaths, such as alcohol-related liver disease, in the UK have taken an “extremely concerning” turn, with the Office for National Statistics reporting 9,641 such deaths in 2021 – the highest on record and a 27·4% increase since 2019, University of Edinburgh and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine warn in BMJ.
