ED, substance use and schizophrenia

People visiting the emergency department for substance use, particularly cannabis, are at high risk of developing schizophrenia within 3 years of their ED visit, according to The Ottawa Hospital, Bruyère Research Institute and ICES. “The use of cannabis in people with first episode psychosis is the rule rather than the exception.”
