On 10 April 1939, 4,730 copies of the 1st edition of Alcoholics Anonymous: The Story of How More Than One Hundred Men Have Recovered from Alcoholism were published at $3.50 a copy ($54 in today’s money). Called “the most redemptive publication of the 20th century”, 30million copies have been sold.
