Home Office: almost 100,000 drug tests

56% of suspects tested for drugs after being arrested for crimes such as robbery, burglary and car theft, tested positive for cocaine, opiates or both. A sample of tests from police forces showed that over 90% led to an assessment by a qualified drug support worker, and almost half of those assessed were then referred for treatment.
