Biden commutes sentences of 2,500 drug offenders

Out of office today, former president Joe Biden said on Friday that he is commuting the sentences of almost 2,500 people convicted of non-violent drug offenses and serving “disproportionately long” sentences compared to those they would receive under today’s law, policy and practice. He pointed to the Fair Sentencing Act of 2010 and the First Step Act of 2018.
