Cost of smoking to society dwarfs tobacco tax revenue

Yesterday, Action on Smoking and Health shared estimates showing that smoking costs England £43.7billion a year – overshadowing the £6.8billion raised by tobacco taxes. This includes: £27.6billion in lost economic productivity, £1.82 billion to the NHS, £13.9 billion in social care costs to local authorities and £332 million in fire-related costs.
