Unmet treatment need: alcohol and other drugs in Australia

Up to 1,291,119 people met criteria for a substance use disorder in Australia in 2023. Removing people who do not need or seek treatment left 406,697-668,497 people as the potential treatment population – an estimated 198,731 people were treated. The unmet demand for AOD treatment is thus 207,966-469,767 people, University of New South Wales showed.
