Children born to mothers who used addictive drugs in pregnancy show altered epigenetic markers in genes regulating stress and reward pathways. Even paternal drug misuse before conception can affect offspring vulnerability to addiction through epigenetic changes in sperm, Fair Vassoler of Tufts University found.
