University of Sheffield and Max Planck Institute researchers published Estimating recent trends in alcohol sales in the UK from alcohol duty revenue. During the Covid pandemic, alcohol duty receipts fell during lockdowns and rose as restrictions were lifted. The ‘cost of living crisis’ in 2022/2023 appears to be associated with a fall in alcohol sales.
