Global drug deaths double despite fewer new cases

Despite preventive strategies that reduced new cases of drug addiction, addicts are doing worse than before, with more drug-related deaths and disability, China’s Jinshan Hospital (affiliated to Fudan University) found using data from the Global Burden of Disease 2021 study. This shows a lack of effective rehabilitation and harm-reduction approaches, especially in countries with a high SDI.
