Joan Bennett Kennedy, widow of Senator Edward Kennedy and advocate for mental health and addiction services, died peacefully at the age of 89. She was one of the 1st prominent women in the US to publicly acknowledge her struggles with alcoholism and depression, breaking the silence and tackling the taboo of addiction in the 1970s.
