Alcohol lowers synaptic density

People who suffer from clinical alcohol use disorder cause more damage to their brains the more they drink, according to a new Yale University study. Researchers used positron emission tomography (PET) brain imaging on 32 people with AUD and 29 controls – and found 11% lower synaptic density in the frontal cortex, striatum and hippocampus of the former.
