The dedicated Michael de Munnik of Solution S in the Netherlands is organising a week-long site visit to the Betty Ford Center in Palm Springs from Monday March 23 through Friday March 27. There is space for a couple more participants! Click headline to get more information.
Below are details from Michael of the week…
In the morning you will be shadowing staff and patients during lectures and therapy sessions. After lunch workshops and lectures will be programmed until supper. Evenings are free time, as is part of Wednesday (to give us a break during the week). Joining me will be – this time – management from one of Holland’s largest safehouses (you would call this tertiary care, I guess) and quite a few senior psychologists from abstinence oriented addiction care organisations. The trip is interesting for anyone interested to see how the renowned Hazelden Betty Ford Center keeps adapting the Minnesota Model to recent scientific insights. Whether it be from a managerial, professional health care or patient perspective.
Feedback from previous participants focuses primarily on:
– the relaxed way in which therapists lead (large) groups on their own,
– the patient-centered approach, as patients’ personal circumstances are taken into account throughout the program,
– the comprehensive family program, including the award-winning children’s program,
– the use of therapy dogs :-), and
– the continuous adjustment of the therapeutic environment based on state-of-the-art scientific insights.
One of our own addiction specialists put it beautifully: “spiritual gentleness.” More information can be found on: https://solutions-center.nl/bettyford/. This is in Dutch.
