US drop in drug deaths slowed down

Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published its monthly provisional overdose death count, the 1st since September 2025, before government was disrupted by the federal shutdown. The data cover the 12 months to August 2025 and showed 69,172 overdose deaths, predicted to level off at 72,836.
