Australia: rise in drug deaths, hospitalisations

This University of New South Wales NDARC report for 2004-05 to 2023-24 showed over 2,000 deaths in 2024 – about 5.5 deaths per day – from drug overdoses. Almost 57,000 drug-related hospitalisations – 156 per day – were also recorded in 2023-24, up 10.5% compared to the previous year.
