Poverty changes children’s brains

For decades, addiction researchers faced a basic chicken/egg dilemma. When a person using alcohol, cannabis, or other drugs had an abnormal brain scan, no one could tell if the difference was already there before substance use began or after. The Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study was designed to help answer that question, following almost 12,000 children.
