At least 11% of child maltreatment in NZ could be due to heavy drinking by caregivers

11% of maltreated children suffer because of the 2nd-hand effects of alcohol, New Zealand’s Massey University states. It is the 1st study globally to examine all 5 domains of child maltreatment – physical abuse, neglect or abandonment, emotional or psychological abuse, sexual abuse and exposure to family violence – using data from child protection, hospitals and police.
