Pain is both a symptom of alcohol misuse and a frequent cause of increased alcohol use. Scripps Research Institute et al explain that the CIE-2BC model induces 2 distinct pain conditions specific to type of ethanol exposure: abstinence-related hypersensitivity in dependent mice and alcohol-evoked neuropathic pain in about half of the non-dependent mice.
