US drug deaths fall 3% – still top 100,000 deaths

Annual US drug overdose deaths declined last year, the CDC reported. The good news was double-edged as the annual drug death toll remains above 100,000 and the decline 2022-2023 was a modest 3%: about 3,500 deaths. There were fewer overdose deaths due to opioids but deaths from other drugs rose.
