Alcohol deaths almost doubled 1999-2024

Alcohol-induced death rates in 2024 were almost double those in 1999, with a sharp rise at the onset of Covid lockdowns and resultant restricted access to treatment. Rates are higher for men but the largest rise in alcohol deaths was in females aged 25-34, according to the University of Califoria et al. See also Independent comment.
