Othering: hiding among drinkers

Heavy drinkers are known to prefer drinking companions so their own drinking is masked in comparison. Now London South Bank University et al confirmed this with a systematic meta-synthesis of othering amongst heavier drinkers, examining how these characterize a ‘problematic other’ to justify, normalise or protect their own ‘non-problematic’ drinking identity.
