TikTok could predict opioid crises

Stanford University researchers – including Professor Keith Humphreys – found that opioid-related TikTok comments anticipated synthetic opioid overdose mortality trends by about 3 months. By analyzing comments under opioid-related videos, researchers uncovered near-real-time signals related to opioid use, recovery, harm reduction and loss.
