Alcohol lets harmful bacteria reach the liver

In 2022, the annual cost of alcohol-associated liver disease in the US was $31billion – by 2040, it could be as high as $66billion. University of California et al found that chronic alcohol use impairs the production of a cellular signaling protein that helps keep gut bacteria in the gut – instead they migrate to the liver, exacerbating liver damage.
