Prisons drugs crackdown backfires

Outlawing drugs once known as ‘legal highs’ led to waves of violence, self-harm and suicide in prisons, according to the University of Sussex. The ban reduced NPS availability on average 32% but also led to a 38% rise in serious assaults and 15% rise in self-harm. “We need to start addressing demand… by delivering proper medical treatment.”
