University of Glasgow evaluated a 3-year therapeutic community – River Garden in Scotland – which aimed to support recovery from problem substance use via peer support and social enterprise activities. Meaningful work was seen as the key to successful recovery but minimising psychosocial support may have doomed its most needy residents: 2 out of 9 almost died.
