Urgent need to grow the addiction medicine workforce

3.3% of 30 Australians are living with a substance use disorder, yet there are only 245 addiction medicine specialists and 68 trainees nationwide. With an average workforce age of about 62, many are nearing retirement, which raises urgent concerns about the future of this workforce, Flinders University warned.
