Opioid overdoses: bring peer support workers into ED?

Almost half of drug-related deaths in the UK involve an opioid, usually heroin. But disruptions to the global heroin supply chain could see more synthetic opioid (eg nitazene) overdoses. “In emergency medicine, we are generally very good at treating opioid poisoning – what we are less good at is preventing these patients from overdosing again,” Dr Gregory Yates of the University of Manchester explained.
